Facility-Based Support

Facility-Based
Support

Watching a disease or age interfere with your loved one’s ability to function on their own can be challenging. Choosing to have someone come into your home as a caregiver can seem invasive, while putting them in an assisted living facility can come with its own set of challenges. What if you could have the best of both worlds?

Comfort Home Care provides care for seniors in their home or in assisted living facilities. We can work in conjunction with assisted living staff to help provide your loved one with more well-rounded care. While an in-home caregiver may not be the best long-term solution, they can be helpful in keeping seniors happy and fulfilled during their later years. Our caregivers can visit with patients in assisted living facilities or nursing homes to provide a well-balanced routine.

Bridging The Gaps In Daily Care

Nursing homes and assisted living facilities are great at providing care and hygiene help to patients; however, there may be gaps in the daily care due to the number of patients they need to serve. For patients who have recently had surgery or have a terminal illness, it may be impossible for facilities to devote the time they need. It can be difficult for staff to spend quality time with each patient or tend to every small inconvenience. Hiring a caregiver to help your senior inside a nursing home or facility will help cover these gaps.

Our caregivers act as family members for many of our patients, meaning we listen with intent, help them with their hobbies, and treat them like our own rather than just another patient. Some tasks that our caregivers can help with, while your loved one is housed in an assisted living facility, include:

  • Helping to find their favorite movie or show to watch throughout the day
  • Bringing items or hobbies from their home that can’t be stored at the facility
  • Get patients ready for bed or change clothes after spills (when other staff are not available)
  • Visit and ask questions to the patient to combat isolation
  • Taking the patient out on safe outings and outside activities
  • Run technology to help the senior stay connected to family
  • Specialized care or assistance that isn’t provided by the facility
  • Lowering the risk of falls or injury when a staff member doesn’t come promptly to assist

Companionship That Assisted Living Facilities Can Not Provide

Working in conjunction with nursing homes or assisted living homes allows their staff to provide medical care and hygiene tasks, and leave the companionship and engaging activities to us. Comfort Home Care can come in to meet with patients a few times a week or every day, depending on their needs. Fostering a connection with a senior can help prevent severe depression and isolation that can shorten their life. Caregivers can talk about favorite memories, something the senior is passionate about, or listen to stories about their children.

Caregivers are able to spend 100% of their time with the patient to help improve their quality of life. The little tasks that are often overlooked by busy facility staff can make a big difference. This personalized attention is our goal when working with elders or those with mobility disabilities. If your family member can benefit from being in a facility, you don’t have to sacrifice personal connection and compassion.

Support For Medical Emergencies

One benefit of having your loved one placed in a facility and hiring a full-time caregiver is a more immediate response to medical care. Caregivers often don’t have extensive medical training, so they will need to call medical personnel in case of an emergency. Having a medically complex person in an assisted living facility allows them to have consistent access to medical equipment and nursing staff. Our caregivers can help fill the connection and compassion gap, while you have peace of mind about medication administration or if an emergency arises.

You’ve got Questions, We’ve got Answers

Can You Help Me Stay In Contact With My Loved One?

Of course! Our caregivers can help run laptops, cell phones, or tablets to help your loved one talk to family who is far away. As technology changes, it can be hard for the elderly to keep up, especially if their minds are deteriorating. Our caregivers can help schedule, plan for, and execute FaceTime calls, video chats, emails, or phone calls. Maintain your relationship with your grandparent, parent, or other loved one with the help of Comfort Home Care.

Should I Involve My Loved One In The Caregiver Selection Process?

We recommend that if your loved one is able and competent, they should be involved in their care plan. Comfort Home Care wants to get to know your loved one, what they enjoy, how they react to situations, and their background. Some caregivers may be better suited for different patients, depending on age, hobbies, or educational background. Having the patient involved in customizing their care plan will ensure quality care and a connection with their caregiver.

Do Your Employees Go Through Background Checks?

Yes, our caregivers are thoroughly vetted before they start working with seniors. Employees will go through background checks, and our team will also look into their background on our own. Looking at references, educational background, and ruling out questionable criminal behavior is all part of a quality hiring process.
